Structural Rehabilitation of a Historic Building with LSF
Beelt is responsible for delivering the structural phase of Fernandes Tomás’s rehabilitation, a property of high patrimonial value located in the heart of Lisbon. The architectural project is by the atelier MA.TERIA. Architecture Solutions, with whom Beelt collaborates on this urban rehabilitation initiative.
With consolidated experience in urban rehabilitation and the technical precision that defines our work, Beelt is responsible for executing the new structure of the building, ensuring the continuity of the project with full engineering excellence.
The scope includes the complete demolition of floors, interior walls, and the existing roof, as well as the structural reinforcement of the peripheral walls from the inside, using reinforcement mesh and projected microconcrete. The new interior structure will be built using Light Steel Framing (LSF) with marine-grade plywood — a lightweight, precise, and fast-executing construction system, ideal for urban contexts with limited access.
The works also include the construction of the supporting structure for a new elevator, in hot-rolled steel, supported on reinforced concrete footings. Due to the sensitive location of the building, the excavation of the foundation works will require archaeological monitoring.
The structural rehabilitation of the Fernandes Tomás building is yet another example of Beelt’s commitment to technical excellence, heritage conservation, and the adoption of sustainable construction solutions.
